PETALING JAYA:
Perikatan Nasional will meet next week to appoint new state chiefs, its information chief, Annuar Musa, said.

In a Facebook post, Annuar said PN was focussed on strengthening its management and administration in accordance with its constitution and rules.

On Sept 1, PN secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan said a Supreme Council meeting would be convened after PAS’s muktamar to discuss several issues, including Bersatu’s position in the coalition.

PAS ended its political cooperation with Bersatu in June, months after ties between the two parties were strained following the move to unseat the Perlis menteri besar from PAS, alleged interference in appointments involving Kedah and Kelantan, and Bersatu’s opposition to admitting new Malay-Muslim parties into PN.

Annuar said the PN Supreme Council will also discuss preparations for the Melaka state election.

The mandate of the current Melaka government expires on Dec 31, after which a state election must be held within 60 days.

Both Pakatan Harapan and PN are looking to strike a pact with Barisan Nasional, which currently holds 20 of the 28 state seats.

PH and BN are allies at the federal level but their ties deteriorated after BN formed a pact with PN in the Negeri Sembilan election, resulting in a two-thirds majority win. - FMT
