The health ministry says the product has mercury, which can be absorbed into the body and cause damage to the kidneys and nervous system.

It is now no longer allowed to be sold in the country, Bernama reported.
The health ministry said mercury is banned in cosmetics because it can be absorbed into the body, causing damage to the kidneys and nervous system.
“Mercury can also disrupt the brain development of young children or unborn babies. It can also cause rashes, irritation, and other changes to the skin,” the ministry said in a statement.
It urged the public to avoid buying and using these cosmetics immediately.
The public can check the status of any cosmetic product by visiting the official National Pharmaceutical Regulatory Agency website at www.npra.gov.my.
Anyone who sells or distributes such banned cosmetics can be fined up to RM25,000 or jailed up to three years, or both, for the first offence. A maximum fine of RM50,000 or imprisonment not exceeding five years, or both, can be imposed for subsequent offences.
Companies that commit offences can be fined up to RM50,000 for the first offence and up to RM100,000 for subsequent offences. - FMT
