Wanita PKR executive committee member Farahida Fauzi, who lodged the report in Kuantan, urged the authorities to conduct an immediate, transparent and impartial investigation, Bernama reported. She said the public should not make fun of religion to attract attention, provoke others or seek popularity.
Yesterday, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission said it had recorded a statement and seized a mobile phone and an eSIM for forensic examination in an investigation over the use of the word “lighad”, which refers to a Quranic verse, in Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s budget speech on Friday.
MCMC did not name the person involved. However, Hisyamuddin Ghazali, head of the community communications department (J-Kom), named political commentator “Lim Sian See” as being under investigation.
“Lim Sian See” is the pseudonym of See-To, former communications adviser to Barisan Nasional. He said in a Facebook post that he was not the one who included the Quranic verse. “Another party added it alongside a screenshot of my comment,” he wrote and called for an investigation into “the party that created and disseminated that composite image, specifically whether the presentation misled the public regarding the actual context of my comment”.
Yesterday, Umno Youth chief Dr Akmal Saleh posted an image of a posting about the word “lighad”. The post was accompanied by a comment by See-To – Lim. Akmal described the post as belittling a Quranic verse.
However, See-To said his comment had originally been made to a Sinar Harian post about words in the budget speech. He said he understood the word to be an Arabic word in common use meaning “the future” or “the days ahead”, and was completely unaware there was a Quranic reference. - FMT
