KUALA LUMPUR: PPBM Youth chief Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman today defended Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s remarks at the recent Malay Dignity Congress, saying other communities and races should not be blamed for problems encountered in life.
Mahathir, who is PPBM chairman, had urged the Malays to prove their abilities and change their attitudes in order to regain their dignity, adding that successful Malays are few in number.
Speaking in a press conference at the Parliament lobby, Syed Saddiq said there had been nothing new about Mahathir’s speech, and that the prime minister had said the same thing the night before the Oct 6 congress.
“We have to accept his advice where we cannot blame other communities or races for the problems we face,” he said.
Instead, he said, people should reflect on how they can improve themselves and find ways to solve their problems without blaming others.
“We are all Malaysians. All communities have their own problems,” he added.
He also expressed the support of PPBM Youth for Pakatan Harapan’s nominee for the Tanjung Piai by-election, Karmaine Sardini.
He said Karmaine, 66, had been with PPBM since its inception.
“He’s exceptionally hardworking and a professional. He has consistently spoken up against the abuse of power and injustice. He dares to speak up despite the fact that he lost many business opportunities due to his outspokenness.
“There has to be a variation of young and old in an election, not just entirely young and old,” he added. “For example, there’s Syed Saddiq and then there’s Mahathir.” - FMT
