Muhyiddin: DAP not involved, arrest of individuals due to alleged LTTE links

KUALA LUMPUR: There is no link between DAP and the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE), says Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.
The Home Minister said the arrest of several party members is based on the actions of individuals over their alleged links to the terrorist group.
"As a party, DAP is not involved; action is taken against individuals based on the law. It is not the issue of a political organisation," he said in the Budget 2020 winding up speech for his ministry on Tuesday (Oct 29).
He was replying to a question from Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (BN-Arau) who asked whether DAP was involved with the LTTE.
Earlier, 10 men, two of them DAP state assemblymen, were hauled to Sessions Courts in five states on Tuesday to face charges of alleged links to the LTTE.
Melaka exco member G. Saminathan and Seremban Jaya assemblyman P. Gunasekaran led the list of the accused.
They were slapped with various charges at the Ayer Keroh court, including possessing items related to the LTTE, as well as supporting the terror group.
No pleas were recorded and the court set Dec 16 for a re-mention of the case and the accused were taken to Sungai Buloh Prison.
Sri Lanka was embroiled in a 26-year civil war between the LTTE and the Sri Lankan military, which saw around 80,000 to 100,000 people killed.
The civil war ended when Sri Lanka's military defeated the LTTE in May 2009. - Star
