COVID-19 | All 28 Top Glove factories in Klang, Selangor, have been ordered to close in stages due to a sharp surge of Covid-19 cases amongst its workers, Senior Minister (Security Cluster) Ismail Sabri Yaakob said today.
At his daily media briefing, he said the closure of the factories is to facilitate the quarantine and Covid-19 test process.
"The government previously announced an enhanced movement control order (MCO) on the male and female dormitories of the Top Glove factory in Klang, starting from Nov 17.
"(At the National Security Council special meeting), the Health Ministry informed (us) about the significant surge of Covid-19 positive cases among the factory workers and a total of 1,067 cases have been recorded today alone," he added.
Ismail Sabri revealed that out of 5,794 Covid-19 tests performed as of today, a total of 1,889 individuals were found positive.
On Nov 16, Top Glove's worker dormitories and the surrounding vicinity were placed under enhanced MCO for two weeks until Nov 30.
While the lockdown affected 5,700 workers, the government allowed Top Glove factories in Klang to continue operation.
Ismail Sabri also announced that the Seremban Prison and its quarters will be placed under an enhanced MCO for two weeks starting Nov 24 after 25 individuals were found to have Covid-19.
The lockdown will affect 2,080 individuals, including prison staff and officials.
The government also decided to continue the full lockdown order imposed on Kampung Sabah Baru, Lahad Datu for another two weeks until Dec 7 to facilitate Covid-19 testing.
As for the enhanced MCO at Putra Point, Nilai, it will be extended for another week until Nov 30 pending the result of the second round of Covid-19 testing conducted today.
In the first round of testing, a total of 314 individuals were found positive out of 436 swab samples taken.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the government agreed to end the enhanced MCO in Taman Mesra, Sandakan and Plaza Hentian Kajang, Selangor effective tomorrow.
Similarly, the enhanced MCO in Medan 88, Salak Tinggi will end on Nov 25 as the situation is under control.
In the Kuching district of Sarawak, the conditional MCO which was supposed to end yesterday, has been extended to Nov 27 as 57 active cases were found in a few clusters in the state capital.
"However, the conditional MCO in Kuching can be lifted earlier if things are under control and there are no new cases recorded during the extension period," he added. - Mkini
