AirAsia Group moots changing company name to Capital A

AirAsia said the name change will be subject to the approval of the shareholders of the company.

PETALING JAYA: AirAsia Group Bhd has proposed to change its name to Capital A Bhd, according to a filing on Bursa Malaysia today.

The budget airline operator said the proposed name was approved by the Companies Commission of Malaysia (SSM) and reserved by the company on Dec 28.

The name change will now be subject to approval of the shareholders of the company during a general meeting which will be announced later.

“The proposed change of name, if approved by the shareholders, will take effect from the date of issuance of the notice of registration of new name by SSM to the company,” it said.

The airline recently had a cash injection of about RM975 million and completed its rights issue on Dec 31 as part of its overall fundraising strategy.

This included the full subscription by its two biggest shareholders, group chief executive officer Tony Fernandes and group executive chairman Kamarudin Meranun.

The group said the capital is expected to help the airline recover this year. - FMT
