PETALING JAYA: Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) may field a candidate in the Kimanis parliamentary seat in the 15th general election (GE15) after all.
This is despite its president Anifah Aman, a former foreign minister, previously expressing support for the Barisan Nasional (BN) candidate.
PCS deputy president Ansari Abdullah said the party would almost certainly be contesting the seat.
However, Ansari did not mention who the candidate would be or whether it would be Anifah himself. Anifah had held the seat from 2004 to 2018.
He said the move had taken into account promises made to the people of Kimanis in the 2018 general election and 2020 state election.
He claimed that Sabahans had repeatedly been promised full restoration of their rights as stated in the 1962 Intergovernmental Committee (IGC) report and the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63).
“Various parties made sweet promises to the people of Kimanis in GE14 and during the Sabah state election in 2020, but those promises were never fulfilled,” he said.
“So, at the insistence and request of the people of Sabah, especially in Kimanis, I can say that PCS will almost certainly contest for the Kimanis parliamentary seat in GE15,” Berita Harian quoted him as saying.
If PCS does contest the seat, Kimanis will see a four-cornered clash between Mohamad Alamin (BN), Daud Yusof (Warisan), Rowindy Lawrence (PH-Upko) and the PCS candidate.
At a recent BN event, former Kimanis MP Mohamad said Anifah had announced his support for him.
Ansari said PCS had received offers from various parties but was only willing to work with parties or individuals that could help PCS achieve its goals and not just make empty promises.
“Sabah’s children are still struggling to find jobs and sustenance in their own land as if they are immigrants in their own state and country. Perhaps it is time for the people of Sabah to change their direction to a new alliance for the interests and rights of the people of Sabah,” he said. - FMT
