PETALING JAYA: The Sabah government has received over RM152 million in dividends from 15 government-linked companies (GLCs) and bodies for the 2021 financial year.
According to a Bernama report, the dividends from the GLCs and statutory bodies were declared to Sabah chief minister Hajiji Noor at the Sabah state assembly building today.
Also present were state secretary Safar Untong, director-general of public services Datu Rosmadi Datu Sulai, and state finance ministry permanent secretary Sofian Nair.
The company that declared the highest dividends was Sawit Kinabalu Sdn Bhd (RM41.79 million).
Others that declared high dividends include Sabah Development Bhd (RM20 million), Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (RM17.24 million), Sabah Credit Corp (RM17 million) and Qhazanah Sabah Bhd (RM15 million).
Early last year, Sabah began a massive revamp of its 200-plus GLCs and statutory bodies in an effort to improve the state’s economy and uplift the living standards of its people.
After taking over as chief minister in 2020, Hajiji ordered an immediate review of agreements and contracts involving all underperforming state agencies and GLCs.
On May 26, he gave an ultimatum to GLCs to pay at least RM1 million in dividends to the state government beginning this year.
Only 10 companies have been paying dividends to the state government.
Last year, Sabah received RM114 million in dividend payouts from GLCs and statutory bodies, a 12.9% increase over the previous year. - FMT
