PETALING JAYA: Police are investigating PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang over claims that Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is an Israeli agent.
Bukit Aman secretary Noorsiah Saaduddin said the remark was allegedly made by Hadi and that the probe was being carried out by Bukit Aman’s classified investigation unit (D5).
The case has been classified under Sections 500 and 504 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 for defamation, intentional insult with intent to provoke a breach of peace, and improper use of network facilities, respectively.
Yesterday, PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil said Anwar had directed the police to take action against anyone spreading slanderous statements against him, such as claims that he was an Israeli agent.
The allegation was made in a recording of a woman claiming that there was “Israeli influence” in Anwar’s appointment as prime minister.
In the recording, which has gone viral, a woman is heard claiming that Baling MP Hassan Saad of Perikatan Nasional had told her after the general election that PAS had secured enough votes to form the government.
The woman claimed that Anwar had “contacted Israel and foreign powers” to interfere in the matter.
According to the New Straits Times, Hassan had denied any involvement with the recording, saying he would decide later if a police report was necessary. - FMT
