Floods hit various parts of Klang Valley after torrential rain

Netizens took to social media to post pictures and videos of flood waters reaching knee-level in some areas.

PETALING JAYA: Flash floods have hit various parts of the Klang Valley after torrential rain that lasted for several hours this afternoon.

Among the affected areas were Kota Warisan and Dengkil in Sepang, Selangor, with netizens taking to social media to post pictures and videos of flood waters reaching knee-level in some areas.

Flash floods were also reported in several precincts in Putrajaya, with some roads submerged in muddy waters.

Meanwhile, according to Sinar Harian, 18 houses in Meru, Klang were affected by flash floods, partly due to clogged drains.

Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said a team was rushed to Taman Meru Jaya, Jalan Kassim, in Meru, at about 1.45pm. Flood waters were already receding at the time.

Norazam said no one had been evacuated.

Meanwhile, KL City Hall (DBKL) officials were quick to clear a clogged drain which had caused floods at Jalan Genting Klang in Kuala Lumpur.

At 2.45pm, the meteorological department said heavy rain was expected throughout the Klang Valley, with the bad weather lasting until 6pm.

One netizen, @tuanpengurus, in Kampung Cemperai, Dengkil, posted a picture of his flooded house.

In replying to newly elected Sepang MP Aiman Athirah Sabu, the Twitter user said it was the 14th time that his house had been hit by floods, adding that his family did not even have time to clear the mess from last week’s floods.

In a Twitter post, Aiman said she was informed that several areas in Desa Timah Langat and Kampung Amirudin were also affected, adding that the authorities had been alerted.

“I have just finished a meeting in KL and am on my way there. Sepangites, please inform me of any other areas that are flooded. Please take precautionary measures.” - FMT
