Prolintas focusing on sustainability for greater comfort

Prolintas are providing visitors to the Malaysian Unit Trust Week (MSAM) 2022 in Port Dickson with information on their various sustainability initiatives.

PETALING JAYA: Highway operator Prolintas is focusing on sustainability measures at the six highways it operates in the Klang Valley.

Prolintas corporate communications chief Badri Ibrahim said the measures included the country’s first enclosed highway noise barrier constructed along a 260m stretch of the Damansara-Shah Alam Elevated Expressway (DASH) in Damansara Perdana.

“Various types of sound barriers have been installed along selected sections of the highway, taking into account the existing infrastructure and communities living near or adjacent to the highway,” he said.

In addition, Prolintas’ auxiliary police and highway patrol staff use electric motorcycles in a bid to be more eco-friendly.

Prolintas corporate communications chief Badri Ibrahim says the company’s main focus is sustainability.

“Prolintas is the first highway operator in Malaysia to use electric motorcycles to monitor highways, which is aimed at reducing our carbon footprint,” said Badri.

He said Prolintas’ 18 electric motorcycles saved up to 4.3 litres of fuel each day, which was equivalent to a carbon emission reduction of 36 tonnes.

Badri added that Prolintas is also participating in the Malaysian Unit Trust Week (MSAM) 2022 in Port Dickson from Nov 24 to 30, where the company would be showcasing its sustainability initiatives.

Among these are its “carpet patching” technique, which uses more durable road patching materials which provide a high level of friction and tyre grip.

Badri added that two other sustainability measures the company had embarked on included food waste composting machines and food delivery robots at the rest stops on its highways.

He said each rest stop now has a composting machine which processes food waste into organic fertiliser, which is then used to fertilise plants along the highway.

A briefing is held for visitors at the Malaysian Unit Trust Week (MSAM) 2022 in Port Dickson.

Badri said that in line with new norms, robots were now being used to deliver food to those who stop to eat at the rest stops at Elmina and the Guthrie Corridor Expressway (GCE).

He added that almost all highways operated by Prolintas used LED lights in order to reduce energy consumption.

In addition to GCE and DASH, Prolintas also operates the Ampang-Kuala Lumpur Elevated Highway (AKLEH), the Kemuning-Shah Alam Highway (LKSA), the Kajang Dispersal Link Expressway (SILK) and Sungai Besi-Ulu Kelang Expressway.

Prolintas is an investment holding company jointly owned by Permodalan Nasional Bhd (PNB) and Amanah Saham Bumiputera (ASB), which have a 47% and 53% stake respectively. - FMT
