KUALA LUMPUR: Barisan Nasional and its component parties will make a collective decision on forming post-electoral pacts by Tuesday (Nov 22), says Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong.

The MCA president said the Barisan supreme council held a meeting over the matter on Monday (Nov 21) afternoon and no decision has been made on the matter yet.

“No decision was made. Discussions will continue since Istana Negara issued a statement that the matter should be finalised by 2pm tomorrow (Nov 22),” said Dr Wee after leaving the World Trade Centre (WTC), where the meeting was taking place.

The King extended the deadline for leaders of political parties and coalitions to form post-electoral pacts and to nominate a prime minister candidate to 2pm Tuesday (Nov 22).

Dr Wee said the Barisan supreme council had deliberated various possibilities during the meeting.

“So far, nothing is conclusive. A decision hasn’t been made and we will make a collective decision tomorrow,” said Dr Wee.

Dr Wee also said he attended a morning meeting between Pakatan and Barisan leaders from 10am to noon.

“I attended the meeting based on the notice given to me, which invited all Barisan MPs. Whether or not the other group came, I don’t know whether it was planned or a coincidence,” said Dr Wee.

MIC president Tan Sri SA Vigneswaran, who came out of the meeting earlier than Dr Wee, said seven Barisan top leaders have been nominated to represent the coalition in negotiations with Pakatan.

Vigneswaran also said the Barisan supreme council would look into all factors and make the decision in the best interest of the nation.

“The meeting is over for today (Nov 21),” said Vigneswaran.

Vigneswaran also said the meeting had to decide whether to support Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim or Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as prime minister.

The Barisan supreme council meeting had begun at 2pm and ended at about 5pm.

It came following a meeting between Barisan and Pakatan leaders at Seri Pacific Hotel from 10am to 12pm.

There was a hive of activity in WTC KL and at the Seri Pacific Hotel after top Barisan and Pakatan leaders were spotted here to discuss a potential post-electoral pact. - Star
