Barring Rayer from Sarawak an abuse of immigration power, says Chong

PETALING JAYA: Barring former Jelutong MP RSN Rayer from entering Sarawak is a clear abuse of immigration power by Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS), said Sarawak DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen.

“While the GPS government denied a fellow Malaysian from entering Sarawak to campaign for the opposition, it invited and allowed another West Malaysian with the surname Ang to enter the state and campaign for GPS’ Stampin candidate (Lo Khere Chiang),” said Chong.

“This is clear abuse (of power) and double standards on the part of GPS in the exercise of immigration autonomy,” he added during a press conference.

Chong called the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) “hypocritical” for inviting Ang to campaign in the state while at the same time bandying its “local party” and “Sarawak First” slogans.

Rayer was scheduled to attend a ceramah in Batu Kawa last night but was barred from entering the state.

Rayer said the state immigration department did not provide any reason when it denied him entry upon arrival in Kuching at 5pm. Rayer added that the decision to bar him from entering was “unfair”. - FMT
