BN sec-gen: Don't air dirty linen in public

BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir has urged BN component party leaders to maintain decorum and resolve disputes using internal channels.

This follows a statement by MCA secretary-general Chong Sin Woon yesterday demanding for BN chairperson Ahmad Zahid Hamidi to step down.

There were also allegations that the MCA, MIC and Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah (PBRS) leadership had written to Zambry yesterday to seek Zahid's ouster. Malaysiakini cannot independently determine the veracity of the letter.

In a statement yesterday, Zambry (above), without naming anyone, said BN supreme council will consider all proposals and motions, in accordance with the coalition’s rules and procedures.

"BN headquarters advises everyone to maintain solidarity and the spirit of consensus which has long been practised in BN to ensure harmony, rule of law and tolerance among component parties and BN affiliates.

"BN upholds the principle of mutual respect in resolving any issues. Therefore, there must be decorum when issuing statements to avoid misunderstandings.

"This includes matters that are discussed during the BN supreme council meetings," he stressed.

Chong had publicly expressed MCA's wish for Zahid to step down over the latter's letter to the Yang di-Pertuan Agong dated Nov 22.

In that letter, Zahid stated that BN's 30 MPs will support Pakatan Harapan's Anwar Ibrahim to become prime minister.

BN's official position initially was that they would remain neutral.

However, Umno, BN’s lynchpin party, decided last night that the coalition should be part of the unity government being mooted by Istana Negara.

It is unclear when the BN supreme council will meet again. - Mkini
