DAP veteran Lim Kit Siang urged Bersatu and PAS presidents Muhyiddin Yassin and Abdul Hadi Awang, respectively, not to be “desperadoes” and resort to lies in their campaigning for the 15th general election (GE15).
This comes after Muhyiddin reportedly claimed that Pakatan Harapan was an “agent of Jews and Christians” who were out to colonise Malaysia during a ceramah in Johor last night.
“Muhyiddin has resorted to lies and falsehoods when he alleged that Harapan was an ‘agent of Jews and Christians’ who were out to colonise Malaysia.
“Could Muhyiddin produce the evidence to substantiate his allegation or is he unable to do so?” Lim said in a statement today.
The authorities, most likely, would not even bother to investigate those claims, he said, as it only exists in Muhyiddin’s “fevered imagination”.
The Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) had since expressed “shock” over Muhyiddin’s claim and urged the authorities to take action to prevent such statements from being repeated.
On that note, Lim sarcastically questioned when Muhyiddin discovered there was such a plot.
He asked whether it was before the Bersatu president approached him in 2016 asking for DAP to support him as the prime minister, or did he only find out in the past few days.
“If the latter, how did Muhyiddin discover this plot (now) when he was unable to discover it when he was home minister in the Harapan government?
“Muhyiddin is just doing what Hadi had already done,” Lim said.
Hadi has repeatedly alleged throughout the campaigning period that DAP was anti-Malay, anti-Islam, and anti-royalty and that some DAP leaders are communists.
Lim once again retorted sarcastically, saying he has been a lawmaker for some 50 years and parliamentary leader of the opposition for 30 years, and he never knew he was a communist.
“How come the super-efficient police Special Branch unit did not know that I was a communist but Hadi knew?
“Anyway, how can Hadi aspire to be prime minister when he is prepared to tell lies?” Lim asked.
He also reminded Hadi of what the latter said during the Teluk Intan by-election in May 2014, back when PAS was still allied with DAP under the now-defunct Pakatan Rakyat coalition.
Back then, the PAS president had praised DAP’s candidate at the time, Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud.
The outgoing Iskandar Puteri MP added that the Islamist party had more in common with DAP than with Umno - such as agreeing on the eradication of poverty, cruelty and corruption, among others.
Hadi as the next PM?
“Let Hadi tell Malaysians what happened after the Teluk Intan by-election in 2014, where PAS leadership did a somersault and decided they have more in common with Umno, supporting (former prime minister) Najib Abdul Razak and his 1MDB scandal.
“Does Islam teach its leaders to tell lies and untruths, and to cooperate with those guilty of corruption?” Lim asked.
He also raised concerns that Hadi may become the next prime minister if Muhyiddin and fellow Bersatu leader Azmin Ali get defeated in the polls tomorrow (Nov 19).
“Furthermore, if PAS wins more parliamentary seats than Bersatu, Hadi will have legitimate reasons to claim PN’s leadership role.
“Are we then on the verge of having Hadi as the 10th prime minister if the voter turnout is as low as in the Malacca and Johor state elections?” Lim questioned.
