Govt mulls declaring Nov 18 a public holiday

Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob also maintained that he was on good terms with BN chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

PETALING JAYA: The government is mulling declaring Nov 18 a special public holiday so that voters can return to their hometowns and cast their ballots the following day.

According to Bernama, Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the proposal will be studied.

Perak DAP chief Nga Kor Ming and the Congress of Unions of Employees in Public and Civil Services (Cuepacs) were among those who had urged Putrajaya to declare Nov 18 a special public holiday.

The Election Commission has set polling day on Nov 19 and early voting on Nov 15.

Ismail also reportedly said he was on good terms with Barisan Nasional chairman Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, maintaining that there were no disputes between the two.

The Umno vice-president said there were no rifts within party leadership, dismissing speculation of such a situation as merely a negative perception made up by the opposition.

He also said BN’s manifesto was one that was realistic and implementable for the coalition.

He added that the retabled Budget 2023 will include initiatives the coalition had pledged to carry out, if BN wins the general election and forms the federal government. - FMT
