GPS likely to be part of unity govt, says leader

GPS’ Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah hopes the new government will be fair to all, including Sabah and Sarawak.

PETALING JAYA: A Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) leader has welcomed the appointment of Anwar Ibrahim as the next prime minister.

“I’m happy the impasse has come to an end,” said Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah.

“I hope the new government will be fair to all, including Sabah and Sarawak. GPS will give its full cooperation to the new government.”

Karim, a Sarawak state minister, said GPS will likely be a part of the unity government, which the Yang di-Pertuan Agong called for.

Warisan deputy president Darell Leiking congratulated Anwar on his appointment.

“We hope he will immediately ensure the implementation of all Sabah and Sarawak’s claims under the Malaysia Agreement 1963,” he said.

Earlier, Istana Negara confirmed that Anwar will be appointed the nation’s 10th prime minister. He will be sworn in at 5pm today. - FMT
