PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob refused to jump the gun as to whether he will be rewarding those who remained loyal to Umno with important positions should Barisan Nasional (BN) win the general election (GE15).

“Let’s win it first and we’ll decide later,” Bernama quoted him as saying at a press conference after officiating the Selangau section of the Sarawak Pan Borneo Highway project there.

The question came after Ismail admitted to being “disappointed” that some of his Umno “friends” in the Cabinet were not selected to represent the party.

Ismail, who is an Umno vice-president, said that though their names were dropped, some of them had stayed loyal to the party and were even prepared to ensure victory for BN.

“We will never forget their deeds. Especially when they chose to stay loyal to the party even though they were not selected to contest.

“I personally feel quite disappointed when my friends, who are winnable candidates and have contributed so much to the party, were not given the chance to contest.”

The four Umno leaders dropped from the list of BN candidates for GE15 were former federal territories minister Shahidan Kassim, Annuar Musa (communications and multimedia minister), Dr Adham Baba (science, technology and innovation minister), and Halimah Sadique (national unity minister).

Shahidan later decided to defend his Arau parliamentary seat in GE15 on a Perikatan Nasional ticket. - FMT
