No such thing as Christianisation of Muslims in Malaysia, Muhyiddin told

The Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism called for parties to act responsibly instead of stoking religious prejudices.

PETALING JAYA: An interfaith group has slammed Perikatan Nasional (PN) chairman Muhyiddin Yassin for claiming that Christians in Malaysia were “in concert with a group of Jews to Christianise Malaysia”.

In a statement, the Malaysian Consultative Council of Buddhism, Christianity, Hinduism, Sikhism and Taoism (MCCBCHST) pointed out that the law does not allow the propagation of other faiths to Muslims.

“(Therefore) the question of Christianising Muslims does not even arise,” the group said in a statement.

“MCCBCHST calls upon all parties to act responsibly instead of stoking religious prejudices.”

The interfaith group hoped parties would focus on issues such as economic development, institutional reforms, and the separation of powers between the executive, judiciary and legislature branches.

MCCBCHST’s rebuke comes after the Council of Churches of Malaysia (CCM) and the Christian Federation of Malaysia (CFM) condemned Muhyiddin for his remarks earlier today.

In a statement, CCM said it was irresponsible of the former prime minister to make such claims as it could create racial and religious strife.

In a recording of a ceramah in Johor on Friday, Muhyiddin claimed that a group of Jews wants PH to win tomorrow’s elections and alleged that PH was working with Jews and Christians to “colonise” the country.

He also claimed there were Malays attending church services in Kuala Lumpur and Petaling Jaya.

PH has lodged a police report to push for an investigation into Muhyiddin’s claim. - FMT
