GEORGE TOWN: Penang has declared a state holiday on Nov 18, the eve of polling day for the general election (GE15).
Penang chief minister Chow Kon Yeow said the day off would give voters “time and convenience” to make preparations ahead of polling day.
Penang is the third state to do so after Selangor and Negeri Sembilan.
Yesterday, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari urged Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob to declare Nov 18 a public holiday nationwide to make it easier for Malaysians to cast their ballots the next day.
On Tuesday, Ismail said the government will study the proposal to declare a special public holiday on Nov 18. - FMT
