PH leading, BN trailing, PN far behind, says think tank

Ilham Centre says its predictions, including Pakatan Harapan winning 86 seats is based on a 80% voter turnout.

PETALING JAYA: None of three major coalitions will be able to secure a simple majority in the general election (GE15), a think tank said, although Pakatan Harapan (PH) is poised to win 86 seats.

The other two coalitions, Barisan Nasional (BN) and Perikatan Nasional (PN) will likely win 51 and 25 seats respectively, Ilham Centre said.

To achieve a simple majority, the coalitions would need to win 112 seats.

Dr Mahathir Mohamad’s Gerakan Tanah Air (GTA) and Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) will only manage one seat each.

In East Malaysia, Ilham Centre said the ruling coalitions in Sabah and Sarawak, Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) and Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) will secure six and 18 seats respectively.

Warisan, meanwhile, is expected to win six seats.

Also, out of the 108 independent candidates contesting in the polls, Ilham Centre expects only one of them to win.

Ilham Centre said their predictions are based on an 80% voter turnout.

It went on to say that urban seats and mixed seats would go to PH in a three-cornered fight.

“The Malay votes ‘stolen’ by PN would only give PH the advantage to defend their seats in these areas.

“PN will give BN a run for its money in Malay-majority areas, but it won’t be enough to topple the latter,” it said in a statement. - FMT
