Probe social media posts inciting racial, religious tensions, cops told

Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan said the decision to lodge a report against nine individuals for their social media postings was not a personal vendetta.

KUALA LUMPUR: A Pakatan Harapan MP has urged the authorities to take action against social media users for allegedly inciting racial and religious tensions in their postings.

Hulu Langat MP Sany Hamzan said PH representatives would be lodging police reports on the matter throughout the country.

Sany lodged a report on the matter at the Dang Wangi district police headquarters this morning.

“We hope police will investigate our report fairly and charge those who play up racial and religious issues.”

Sany said the decision to lodge reports against nine individuals for their social media postings was not a personal vendetta, adding that these users must not be allowed to influence the mindset of the youth.

Earlier this week, Inspector-General of Police Acryl Sani Abdullah Sani warned that stern action, including the use of the Sedition Act, would be taken against those behind social media postings that touched on racial and religious sensitivities.

He said police had discovered such postings following the general election, which ended last Saturday. - FMT
