PETALING JAYA: Former Barisan Nasional chairman Najib Razak has called for the long-term interests of Umno and BN to be safeguarded during negotiations to form a coalition government.
In a message from Kajang prison, conveyed through his daughter, Najib said the opinions of all newly-elected MPs from BN should be considered during the negotiations.
Najib, who is serving a 12-year jail term on corruption charges, said he deeply missed his friends in BN, and said that Umno and BN would surely rise again.
BN won only 30 seats in Parliament at the general election, Pakatan Harapan won 82, Perikatan Nasional 73, GPS 22, GRS 6, with the rest won by minor parties and independents.
Earlier today, BN denied claims by Gabungan Parti Sarawak chairman Abang Johari Openg that the coalition had agreed to form a government in partnership with PN. - FMT
