RECENTLY, a photo went viral on social media purporting to show that the Department of Islamic Development Malaysia (Jakim) had issued a letter supporting a Syariah-compliant investment scheme that required people to deposit money into a few bank accounts.
Was such a letter ever issued by Jakim?
VERDICT:
FALSE
In a post on its official Facebook page on Monday (Nov 7), Jakim said that it had not issued such a letter, adding that it was in fact fake.
“Jakim denies having any link to the letter,” it added.
