Radzi wants to realise Putrajaya’s economic, tourism potential

PN’s Radzi Jidin (left) says he is no stranger to the people of Putrajaya.

PUTRAJAYA: Perikatan Nasional’s Radzi Jidin says he will work towards realising Putrajaya’s economic and tourism potential should he win the seat in the 15th general election (GE15).

The Bersatu vice-president also said he wants to resolve issues affecting government quarters and public transport.

He said he would soon publish details of his vision to take Putrajaya to the next level.

“We need to provide more opportunities for economic development,” he told FMT. “The new generation has asked what opportunities are available for them, but it seems there are too few in Putrajaya.”

On Putrajaya’s tourism potential, he said administrative capitals usually drew tourists, but this was not the case with Putrajaya. This was despite Putrajaya being “somewhat modelled” after Australia’s capital city, Canberra, where he used to live.

Radzi was sent to battle in Putrajaya as the coalition needed a “strong” candidate to go up against Barisan Nasional’s Tengku Adnan Mansor.

He is no stranger to the area as he had been active in Putrajaya since moving there in 2018, he said.

“The fact that I’ve been living here means I know the problems the people are facing.”

He also said his experience in the economic affairs and education ministries as well as living overseas would be useful to help Putrajaya reach its full potential.

Despite having to face former Putrajaya MP and federal territories minister Tengku Adnan, Radzi said he is upbeat about his campaign having gone to the ground to meet with voters.

Putrajaya has been a BN stronghold since the seat was first contested in 2004. Tengku Adnan has served as its MP since then.

This time around, the battle for Putrajaya will see a six-cornered fight between Radzi, Tengku Adnan, Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz (Pakatan Harapan), Rosli Ramli (Gerakan Tanah Air) as well as independent candidates Lim Fice Bee and Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi. - FMT
