Rafizi’s hung Parliament remark meant to push PH, says Anwar

IPOH: PKR deputy president Rafizi Ramli’s remark that the country will have a hung Parliament after the 15th general election (GE15) is meant to inspire the opposition coalition to win more seats, says Anwar Ibrahim.

The Pakatan Harapan chairman said he had discussed the strategy with Rafizi.

“He said he came up with such a view to push PH to obtain 10 to 15 more seats so that we can obtain a simple majority,”Anwar told reporters after a meeting with farmers in Tambun, earlier today.

Yesterday, Rafizi was reported to have said that he was confident no single coalition or party would attain a majority post-GE15, which would lead to a hung Parliament.

However, Rafizi said he believed PH was in the lead with approximately 80 seats that it was confident of winning, while Barisan Nasional (BN) had roughly 60 to 70 seats.

Anwar went on to dismiss defence minister Hishammuddin Hussein’s claim that the difference of opinion on the number of seats PH could win implied a conflict among PKR’s leaders.

He added that Umno was currently in turmoil as it now had three potential candidates for the post of prime minister.

“Hishammuddin said this means there is a conflict between myself and Rafizi, he must think this is Umno. Umno has not even determined its prime ministerial candidate, now there are three.”

On Monday, Hishammuddin reportedly claimed that there was a lack of understanding between Rafizi and Anwar, citing the difference in the number of seats both felt PH could win in GE15. - FMT
