PETALING JAYA: A former deputy youth and sports minister has called on the ministry to release the full report on the recent death of a Sarawakian teen hockey player as soon as possible.
Bill Wolfson Lianie’s family must be provided with answers concerning his death, Steven Sim said.
“The government must ensure the safety and health of all athletes, especially those living in the Perak National Sports Council (MSN) hostel,” Sim said in a statement.
A post-mortem revealed that Wolfson died from a brain haemorrhage.
The 14-year-old had complained of discomfort and giddiness, before suddenly collapsing in his room at the Perak National Sports Council hostel at about 7am.
Sim said the tragedy had similarities with the case of Universiti Utara Malaysia student S Vinosiny who died from electrocution in her dorm in May.
“Half a year later, the victim’s family and even regular Malaysians have still not received any updates on the investigation.”
Sim also claimed the government had been silent and delaying the release of reports whenever a student died in a dormitory.
“Without such reports, how can we guarantee that our children will be safe when we send them to these institutions?” - FMT
