PETALING JAYA: Sabah Progressive Party is sticking with Perikatan Nasional, which made its pledge to play the role of check and balance on the government, while also endorsing the state GRS coalition’s support for the new federal government.
GRS chairman Hajiji Noor had announced earlier today the coalition’s support for the new government led by Anwar Ibrahim. SAPP is a member of the coalition.
SAPP president Yong Teck Lee said the party was confident that the new federal leadership would respect and uphold the constitutional federal system “whereby all the state governments and the federal government of the day shall work with each other for the common good of the people irrespective of political alignment”.
The party’s statement comes in the wake of Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku (STAR) saying yesterday that its membership in PN may no longer be relevant because of the disagreement about the formation of a unity government at the federal level.
Its president Jeffrey Kitingan was reported as saying that both STAR and PN are moving in opposite directions at the moment. However, Kitingan said his party prefers to let things cool down before they make their next move. - FMT
