PETALING JAYA: Residents of Taman Sri Muda, which was devastated by floods in December last year, have been advised to park their vehicles on higher ground, after flash floods struck the area this evening.

In a Facebook post, the Shah Alam City Council said the Pasar Moden Seri Muda’s elevated car park is open to the public.

Meanwhile, Bernama reported Shah Alam police chief Iqbal Ibrahim as saying that authorities received reports of rising water levels in several areas surrounding Taman Sri Muda.

The situation, however, is under control.

“Residents in the Taman Sri Muda area are advised to park their vehicles on higher ground,” he said.

Selangor fire and rescue department director Norazam Khamis said they were not expecting floods around Taman Sri Muda, Kota Kemuning and Sections 17 to 24.

However, three forward bases, one in Taman Sri Muda and two posts in Batu 14 and Sungai Serai, Hulu Langat, have been opened in preparation for floods.

Taman Sri Muda was one of the areas that was badly affected by the floods last year, with several casualties recorded.

Earlier, several areas in Shah Alam were hit by flash floods including Section 17, Section 24, Section 32, Section 36, Bukit Naga, Alam Impian and Bukit Jelutong.

Netizens took to social media to share videos and pictures of rising water levels, with some reporting that floodwaters had entered their homes. - FMT
