Firstly here are the results of the Perak State elections. The 59 State seats were secured by the following parties (in descending order of seats won) :
Perikatan Nasional 26 seats
Pakatan Harapan 24 seats
Barisan Nasional 9 seats
If we keep to the Westminster model (although it is at State level), PN should have been appointed the Menteri Besar. Or invited to form the State government. On account of the PN having won the most seats ie 26 seats, just FOUR short of a simple majority.
Instead the 2nd and 3rd ranked parties (PH and BN) were asked to form the State Government.
Now, there is a shocker of an announcement by Wee Ka Siong, the president of the MCA (a coalition partner of the BN) who says that the BN Supreme Council never discussed joining forces with PH to form the State government in Perak.
Here is the shocking news:
"Maaf ya, Dewan Tertinggi Barisan Nasional TIDAK pernah berbincang tentang BN & PH bergabung membentuk Kerajaan Perak. Malahan, selepas PRU15, mesyuarat Dewan Tertinggi BN masih belum lagi diadakan setakat waktu ini.
Saya sebagai Presiden MCA & Naib Pengerusi Barisan Nasional TIDAK pernah dirujuk atau dimaklumkan langsung. Entah dari mana keputusan itu dicapai! Dewan Tertinggi BN diketepikan😢😢😢.
Terkini, Pengerusi DAP Lim Guan Eng pula MENYOKONG PH bergabung dengan BN untuk membentuk kerajaan!😢😢😢😢"
The news from The Star :
PETALING JAYA: BN supreme council never discussed joining forces with PH to form the Perak government, says Dr Wee Ka Siong.
The MCA president said that, in fact, a meeting of the supreme council had yet to be held since the 15th General Election (GE15).
“As the MCA president and Barisan Nasional vice-chairman, I was never consulted or informed directly.
“I don't know where this decision came from. The BN supreme council was set aside,” he said in a Facebook post Monday (Nov 21).
Dr Wee was referring to news that Barisan and Pakatan will form the Perak state government.
Earlier, state National Council member Tan Sri Annuar Zaini said Perak Ruler Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah is satisfied that following an audience by state Barisan chairman Datuk Seri Saarani Mohamad and Tebing Tinggi assemblyman Dr Abdul Aziz Bari that they have the numbers to form the state government.
"To be fair, the Sultan had also asked representatives from Perikatan Nasional - Razman Zakaria and Datuk Zainol Fadzi Paharuddin - to seek an audience.
"When asked whether they had the numbers to form the state government, they admitted that they did not.
"They also understood that the Sultan has to act according to the law that those who command a simple majority are to form the state government," he said in a press conference on Monday (Nov 21).
Annuar Zaini also said Barisan and Pakatan had come to an agreement that Saarani will be sworn in as the Perak Mentri Besar.
The Kota Tampan assemblyman will be sworn in at Istana Iskandariah in Kuala Kangsar at 5.30pm Monday.
My Comments :
So how now, brown cow ? The MCA president says the BN supreme council (and he himself as MCA president) were never consulted about joining up with PH to form the State government in Perak.
How exactly does the 'anti-hopping law' work? If the BN Supreme Council did not approve it or the MCA president did not know about it, then is it in breach of the 'anti-hopping' law?
My view is the "anti-hopping" law is really stupid. It is a piece of "woke" legislation, just like the Undi 18 that really does not benefit anything.
Just more controversy.
