Too hot - Drainage dept's portal, app on floods shut down

As the nation braces for more floods due to the monsoon season, the Department of Irrigation and Drainage (JPS) revealed that it has been forced to shut down the Infobanjir public portal and mobile application.

According to Environment and Water Ministry chief secretary Zaini Ujang, this was due to an unprecedented problem with the cooling system at the public sector data centre (PDSA) Enstek yesterday.

In a statement, he said the 7pm incident resulted in disruptions to all servers and applications located at PDSA Enstek

“Based on the advice of Mampu (Malaysian administrative modernisation and management planning unit), JPS executed a shutdown of the server until the cooling system is repaired.

“As a result of this, monitoring of forecast operations and flood warnings cannot be carried out at the optimum level during this period,” he added.

In the statement received at 12.53pm, Zaini said JPS is unable to provide an exact timeline for when the issue would be resolved but would provide regular updates.

However, a check by Malaysiakini at 1.30pm found that the portal appeared to be operational, with the latest update at 1pm warning that water in Sg Johor, Kota Tinggi, Johor, had surpassed the “danger” level. - Mkini
