PETALING JAYA: Perikatan Nasional has appointed Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man of PAS to lead talks on forming the new Pahang government, after an inconclusive result in the general election.
None of three main coalitions secured enough seats for a simple majority of 22 in the 42-member state assembly. Perikatan Nasional won 17 seats, Barisan Nasional 16, and Pakatan Harapan 8.
PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin has previously ruled out any alliance with PH.
Tuan Ibrahim is the deputy president of PAS, with whom Umno, the dominant party in BN, had previously forged an alliance known as Muafakat Nasional.
BN has teamed up with PH to form a new state government in Perak, where the state elections had similarly resulted in a hung state assembly. - FMT
