PADANG SERAI: Amanah vice-president Mahfuz Omar believes that voting for Pakatan Harapan’s Sofee Razak for the Padang Serai seat will help raise voters’ concerns easily to the federal government.
“Sofee can just whisper the problems faced by the voters here to Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim’s ear as Sofee is from the same party as him,” said Mahfuz during the Ayuh Malaysia Kita Boleh ceramah in Padang Serai.
He added that Padang Serai voters should stick with the unity government and not choose someone outside it.
“Imagine if you choose the candidate from Perikatan Nasional, how is he going to whisper in Anwar’s ear,” he said.
“On top of that, they are traitors. Hence, one should not trust them,” said Mahfuz, referring to PN members, many of whom were previously with PH.
The contest for the Padang Serai parliamentary seat is a six-cornered battle between Sofee, Asman Nasrudin (PN), C Sivarraajh (Barisan Nasional), Hamzah Abdul Rahman (Pejuang), Bakri Hashim (Warisan) and independent K Sreanandha Rao.
The election for the constituency was postponed to Dec 7 following the death of PH candidate, M Karupaiya, three days before polling day on Nov 19.
Karupaiya had won the seat at the 2018 general election with an 8,813-vote majority in a three-cornered fight.
There are 133,867 voters in the constituency, comprising 62% Malays, 19% Indians, 17% Chinese and 0.7% others. - FMT
