YOURSAY | PAS leader Sanusi’s misogyny is obnoxious

Azmin defends Sanusi over remarks against women becoming Sik MP

Kilimanjaro: Maybe the Malay proverb "Katak di bawah tempurung" was meant for Kedah menteri besar Muhammad Sanusi Md Nor.

Gone are the days when women were frowned upon as engineers, be it civil or otherwise. In the past, most of the paddy planting was done by women folk.

There were 10 of us. This necessitated my father to do three jobs and even that did not bring sufficient income to run the family. So my mother, too, had to do three jobs - of course, cooking for the family, a labourer's job and, in the evening, working in our large vegetable garden.

Womenfolk have become adventurous and have even travelled into space. Considering her disability, Pakatan Harapan candidate Dr Noraishah Mydin Abdul Aziz, a neurobiologist by training, has scaled heights that Sanusi may find difficult to comprehend. Has Sanusi not heard of women scaling even the tallest mountains?

Sanusi's comment on this is obnoxious. Just to tell him off; the folks of Sik should choose a woman to be their representative. We should be proud that we Malaysians see men and women as equals.

IndigoKiwi9570: Sanusi, what makes you think that all women take two hours to apply their make-up and get ready? How about a man who takes two hours to decide which Burberry shirt to wear?

Some men take time to get their photographers assembled before going out. People like you probably take two hours to practise what stupid jokes you should say in your speech. You clowns from PAS are indeed a rare breed.

Mugi: Throughout history, men and women have not been treated equally. That is a fact.

Fortunately, educated and advanced countries are closing the gap but not Muslim-majority countries like Iran.

Malaysia treats its women folks relatively better than many Middle East countries, but we still have plenty of room to improve.

PAS leaders, besides using Chinese minorities and religion as a weapon, have not been treating their female counterparts well, especially single mothers.

I hope most women take note of PAS' condescending treatment against them in GE15.

Jujubee: What is a male chauvinist? A male who patronises, disparages, or otherwise denigrates females in the belief that they are inferior to males and thus deserving of less than equal treatment or benefit.

That's what it is. ‘Siapa makan cili, dia-lah yang rasa pedas!’

Newday: Sanusi, you just dug a bigger hole trying to backpedal your way out of your misogynist-driven own goal.

Your view regarding women is completely blinkered by your patriarchal, ultra-conservative religious belief.

Maybe you are now the catalyst for a woman to be Kedah menteri besar. A most wonderful enlightening occasion would be to break the insecure grip of patriarchy-based politics and religion.

Sealthedeal: People should remember how Sanusi’s team threatened and intimidated the woman who reported him for breaking Covid-19 lockdown rules when he took a new car test drive.

This is the nature of man. Indeed, he doesn't deserve a single vote.

Coward: It is a lame excuse Bersatu leader Azmin Ali gave to defend Sanusi. In fact, I don't know what the excuse is.

Is it a misunderstanding because of the local dialect? Is it because they believe the area is too rural? The last possibility is the people there think a woman cannot do it because of its remoteness.

The first is unlikely, as that is the default position these politicians take when something negative happens.

The second just confirmed their chauvinist thinking believing a woman cannot do it as the area is too rural. The last is just utterly bad for a leader in PAS to reinforce local bias for his party's gain. However, that's par for the course for PAS.

All it is doing is telling me to trust Azmin - that Sanusi didn't mean it. In ordinary times, this is already a big ask. Right now, I don't think Azmin has the public trust to ask us to do this.

Azmin cannot afford to lose votes himself in Gombak. His action just loses him a lot of women's votes.

Justice: So why should women vote for PAS candidates in the 15th general election?

Since Bersatu, of which PAS is a coalition partner (under PN), does not condemn this foolish humiliation of women by PAS, voters should not vote for PN candidates.

Thus, all good people, men and women, of Malaysia should act to stop and ensure that evil does not triumph in Malaysia in this general election. - Mkini
