Former PAS Syura Council secretary Mohd Khairuddin Aman Razali will soon be playing a similar role in the newly formed Umno Ulama Council.
Umno sources said Khairuddin was recruited based on his previous experience, including his time spent as the Kuala Nerus MP.
"Khairuddin (above) has a lot of experience with PAS," a source told Malaysiakini.
The source said former Islamic affairs minister Jamil Khir Baharom will also be on the Umno Ulama Council as deputy chairperson.
The Umno Ulama Council was formed as part of a reform effort after the party's annual delegates assembly for 2022 last month.
Former Yayasan Dakwah Islamiah Malaysia (Yadim) head Dusuki Ahmad has been appointed the council head.
Khairuddin declined to comment on the matter when contacted by Malaysiakini. He said an announcement was expected during the council's inaugural meeting on Feb 27.
"The council structure will be revealed then," he said.
Khairuddin was a two-term Kuala Nerus MP and prominent PAS politician. He quit the party in 2022 after a falling-out with the party leadership.
His bid to be re-elected for Kuala Nerus as a BN candidate in the 15th general election in November last year was unsuccessful. - Mkini
