Teens arrested for criticising SPM History paper released, says Education Minister

PETALING JAYA: The two teenagers who were arrested over a video allegedly criticising the Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia (SPM) History paper have been released, says Education Minister Fadhlina Sidek.

The duo were arrested by the police on Saturday (Feb 25) after a house raid and drug test, following a police report by a teacher over the video.

Fadhlina told The Star that she would ensure that they will sit for their other SPM papers.

"The two students were released (from police custody) at 11.30am on Sunday (Feb 26).

"They will be allowed to sit for their SPM paper. Counsellors from the Education Ministry have also been assigned to the school to ensure that students sitting for the examinations keep their emotions in check.

"All students and teachers, however, are reminded not to issue any statements which will disrupt the harmony between race, religion, nation and international relations," said Fadhlina in a text message.

She did not say if the students were released on bail.

On Feb 25, Hulu Selangor OCPD Supt Suffian Abdullah said that two male teenagers were arrested to assist investigations into a viral video of pupils criticising the SPM history exam paper, following a report filed by a teacher. - Star
