KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Supreme Council member Khaidhirah Abu Zahar has announced her candidacy for the Puteri Umno chief’s position.
Speaking to the media after the Supreme Council meeting, Khaidhirah, also known as Dira, said she had informed incumbent Zahida Zarik Khan of her intentions.
“I have informed everyone, including the party president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi,” she told reporters after the meeting at Menara Dato Onn.
Khaidhirah, a former actress, said Zahid had mentioned that there were four people contesting for the post, but she was unsure if she was part of the four. She would be submitting her nomination papers tomorrow.
Separately, Umno information chief Isham Jalil said the response towards the party’s elections had been good.
“The response from people wishing to contest for party positions has been encouraging.
“This means that many people are interested to contest for a position in the party,” he said.

The elections for the Umno divisions and its Supreme Council will be held simultaneously on March 18.
