Cop allegedly involved in journo's abduction suspended

One of the three Special Branch police officers allegedly involved in the abduction of a Bangladeshi journalist early this month has been suspended from duty.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the two other suspects could face the same action, depending on the outcome of investigations.

"We have wrapped up investigations into the case and will await further instructions," he was quoted as saying by Berita Harian after attending the city police contingent's monthly meeting today.

It was earlier reported that Selangor police probed the case and handed the investigation papers to the DPP last week for further action.

The three cops attached to Putrajaya police's Special Branch were arrested and later released on bail upon completion of their remand period.

Three local men identifying as police allegedly approached the journalist, who is in his 30s, at his home in Putrajaya on Nov 7.

They told him that he needed to assist them on a case that he was allegedly involved in.

The victim, who works at a Bangladeshi TV station, was then reportedly abducted and kept in a house in Klang, Selangor, for three days.

While he was held captive, he was purportedly beaten, caned, kicked in the abdomen and had his hands slashed by men who demanded RM1.9 million in ransom for his release. - Mkini
