KUALA LUMPUR: One of the three policemen suspected of kidnapping a Bangladeshi journalist has been suspended from duty.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Allaudeen Abdul Majid said the two other officers could face similar action pending the outcome of the investigation.

“We are awaiting further developments as the case is (also) being investigated by the Selangor police. As for the Kuala Lumpur police, we have taken action by suspending the policeman concerned,” he told reporters after the monthly assembly at the police contingent headquarters here today.

A Bangladeshi journalist had reportedly claimed that he had gone through a harrowing experience after being kidnapped and tortured for three days by local residents claiming to be policemen in a house in Klang, Selangor.

The journalist, who declined to be identified and is in his thirties, claimed that he was beaten, caned, kicked in the stomach and had his hands bound by a group of several men who demanded RM1.9 million from him if he wanted to be set free. - FMT
