I won’t apologise as I didn’t intend to insult Islam, Chetz says

Dog trainer Maznah Mohd Yusof is standing her ground and said today that she will not apologise for her controversial Hari Raya greeting video clip and that her intention was never to insult Islam.

"I will not therefore say sorry for something which I believe was not wrong," she was quoted as saying by the Astro Awani news portal.

Maznah said  it was not her fault nor responsibility  if the public misinterpreted the intention behind the making of the video which shows her performing ablution upon herself and her three dogs on Hari Raya three years ago.

"If I apologise over the video, it means I am submitting that I have indeed done something that is opposed to the Islamic teachings. The video did not insult Islam. Accusing me that I wanted to insult Islam is akin to defaming me," said the dog trainer nicknamed Chetz.

The 1 minute 44 second footage shows Chetz, clad in a black Baju Melayu, washing the paws of her dogs to the call of the Azan prayers.

The clip features her bathing her dogs with Aidilfitri prayers and a popular song as background audio, before preparing Raya savouries for the mutts.
Chetz admitted that she was the original maker of the video which had however been reposted again without her knowledge.
She said the uploader of the video had edited it to portray her as insulting the religion.
"Is rearing dogs something non-Islamic? I want to ask, who is actually insulting Islam? I make sure my dogs are clean. I take care of them well. So, what is the problem?"

Chetz said that she took care of her dogs in accordance with Islamic teachings  and that the person who uploaded the video had misinterpreted its contents.

"I only recorded my Hari Raya greetings. I wanted to show in my video that I go for walks with my dogs in the morning. So, what is the issue? I really don't understand," she said in the interview.

Chetz said that in the footage, she was only recorded cleaning her dogs and that she was only washing her hands thereafter.

She said her message was Hari Raya should not only be celebrated with people but also with animals. She now feared for her safety, her dogs and her family after receiving death threats by text messages.

"I have already lodged a police report yesterday against those who had uploaded the video and alleged that I insulted Islam. Today I will be making another report on the death threats," she added.
The reposted video went viral, causing a stir among Muslims and Maznah was arrested by the police on Wednesday. She was investigated for causing disharmony among religions.
She has since been released.
