‘I’m a gangster, I’ll only die by the knife’

Local gang members have, through the social media, openly brandishing gang logos and hand signs without fear of the authorities.
PETALING JAYA: Local gang members have become fearless in recent times, brandishing gang logos and hand signals blatantly on social networks such as Facebook.
Youths blatantly pose for pictures showing off hand gestures and gang-related logos on social network sites, receiving numerous “likes” and supportive comments.
Perhaps, the police force should step up its efforts as the youths now seemed proud to be linked with gangs in view of the rise in crime rates recently.
Facebook is now used to lure individuals to come together and form groups, and also as a platform to launch verbal attacks against rival members or groups.
Friends and other Facebook users seemed to encourage this behaviour by showering such individuals with positive comments and “Likes”.
Just what makes them so brave?
Is it because the police failed to take action on such individuals or groups or is it because they feel that they are receiving strong support with the encouraging posting and “Likes” on Facebook thus, fuelling their delusion that that they are above the law?
One Facebook account owner, “Cartiq Rojer” who claims to be affiliated with “gang 36,” uses different variants of the number 36 as profile pictures. One of it reads, “this is 36 kingdom”.
The user can also be seen taunting and poking fun at another gang in the Facebook group, “1408 Kaigel’z.” This led to some of the members of the group retaliating with vulgar messages.
In time, this could result in gang wars and leading to more shootings and gang-land style executions.
Proud gangsters
Another user “Suria Jahat”, who’s profile photo is the Sanskrit Om symbol, posted photos of stacks of RM100, RM50 and RM10 notes tied with rubber bands on a newspaper.
Another photo showed two unidentified men with huge gold rings on their fingers with the number 36 and the Sanskrit Om symbol. A photo of a machete was also posted on his profile.
The user even has a picture of a man with multiple slash wounds together with a tagline that says, “ I’m a gangster, I have no sense and I will only die by the knife”.
A picture of a machete was also posted on his profile.
All these pictures received nothing but praises and comments such as: “36 hidup bila-bila”.(36 lives on) and “That’s right, 36 till we die.”
It is indeed worrying that there youths are showing interest in gangsterism. With each gang-related group on Facebook having an average of 3,000 users, gangsterism has and is becoming even more rampant in the country.
