Perkasa wants fatwa on handling dogs

Malay rights group Perkasa has called on Malaysian Muslim clerics to have a fatwa on dog-handling in the wake of the Muslim dog trainer video controversy recently.
Its secretary-general Syed Hassan Syed Ali said too much time had been spent criticising Maznah Mohd Yusof, who was detained by police over her YouTube clip, when the authorities should be asking themselves how this could have happened.
But he still wants her punished.
Maznah was released by Segamat police today after being remanded for two days.
“It is not a case of committing the crime and then asking for forgiveness and letting her go.
"This is a sensitive issue. If this video was shot by a non-Muslim it is understandable as they don’t understand Islam... but this has been done by a Muslim which makes it severe,” he told The Malaysian Insider.
He said the younger generation appeared to be confused over what is halal or haram.
"What we are worried about is that this may be emulated by others who have a shallow knowledge of Islam,” he said.

Syed Hassan said although the clip was shot three years ago, it is still an issue as it has upset the Muslim community.
Maznah angered Muslims with her controversial 105-second video where she is seen walking and bathing her three dogs as the Takbir Raya – or Muslim call to prayer traditionally reserved for the first day of Hari Raya Aidilfitri – plays in the background.
