Malay rights group Perkasa today urged the government to strip filmmaker Namewee of his citizenship following his latest video blog rant.
Namewee, or his real name Wee Meng Chee, questioned the government’s decision to order a second review onThe New Village film last week, and this seemed to have riled up Perkasa.
“This has gone on for far too long. An apology won’t suffice any more. It’s time to take action,” said Perkasa deputy president Abdul Rahman Bakar in a press conference today.
He did not specify the action against Namewee, but suggested drastic actions such as stripping the rapper and filmmaker of his citizenship.
“He insulted our national anthem before and we still allowed him to be,” Abdul Rahman said.

Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman also urged the government to review the effectiveness of attorney-general Abdul Gani Patail’s role in charging individuals.
“This is because we have made thousands of police reports over which the AG has not taken action,” he claimed.
Abdul Rahman also claimed selective persecution, stating that non-Malays are let off easier than Malays when it comes making statements pertaining to racial sensitivity.
“When it’s Malays, they act fast. When it’s non Malays, they seem to hesitate. The government must relook into this,” he claimed.
He said statements insulting Islam or Malays “are getting out of hand”, and warned that Malays shouldn’t be pushed to the extent that they take the law into their own hands.
