KUCHING : Perlis mufti Datuk Mursyid Diraja Dr Juanda Jaya, who is back in the state for the Hari Raya celebration with his family, was robbed when two parang-wielding men broke into his house at Jalan Semariang here early today.
Confirming the case, Kuching deputy police chief Supt Abang Ahmad Abang Julai said the robbers ransacked his house and escaped with valuables worth about RM30,000 after he was tied up together with his wife and a maid, who were hurt in the 5.30am incident.
"Police investigation is still going on and a forensics team has been sent to the house to gather evidence, including on the suspects, who are believed to have entered through the back door grille," he told Bernama here.
He said the case was being investigated under section 394 of the Penal Code.
Meanwhile, Dr Juanda, a Melanau whose family originally came from Mukah, who became the first Sarawakian to be appointed to his current post in 2009, could not be contacted for comments.
