DPM launches RM5bil highway in Teluk Intan

TELUK INTAN Deputy Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin today launched a RM5 billion West Coast Expressway at Teluk Intan, as the campaign for the parliamentary by-election entered its second week.

The five-year project, first announced by Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak in 2010 under the 2011 budget, is a massive 233kilometre highway stretch that will connect Banting in Selangor to Taiping, in Perak.

The highway will pass through Bagan Datoh, Teluk Intan, Lekir and Sitiawan before ending in Taiping.

Muhyiddin said that he was confident that Teluk Intan and its neighbouring towns will experience massive development once the highway is completed.

However, Perak Menteri Besar Zambry Abdul Kadir (right) said the highway's launch was a long-planned event and merely "coincided" with the by-election.

The groundbreaking ceremony took place beneath the Teluk Intan-Sitiawan bridge this morning.
