Umno supreme council member Razali Ibrahim was wrong in dragging the MCA-owned Universiti Tunku Abdul Rahman (Utar) into a racial issue, MCA president Liow Tiong Lai said today.
Speaking to reporters after the nominations for the Teluk Intan by-election today, Liow said that Razali should be "mindful" with his statement.
Razali (left) was quoted byBernama as questioningwhy DAP's Teluk Intan candidate Dyana Sofya Mohd Daud did not ask for the closure of Utar, which Razali said was dominated by a single race.
He was criticising Dyana for questioning Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM)'s intake policy, that is open only to bumiputera.
"I don't think Razali got things right. Utar is not an university that is dominated by a particular race. Admission is open to all, regardless of race," he stressed.
He asked Razali not to link Utar with a racial issue, and asked the latter, who is also a deputy minister in the Prime Minister's Department, to be "mindful" when making statements.
Dyana, a 27-year-old UiTM law graduate, has been pitted against Gerakan chief Mah Siew Keong, 53, for this by-election.
