Minister acts as if he’s disbursing Umno funds

YOURSAY ‘Nothing is free from BN, they give you RM1 and then take RM100.’

Minister: Click on Mah for broadband

Wg321: The Najib Razak mantra is at work again - “You help me, I help you”. So Communications and Multimedia Minister Ahmad Shabery Cheek is trying to bribe the Generation Y people just as Najib has done in Sibu.

Today, the Internet broadband speeds in Cambodia and Vietnam are much faster than that in Malaysia (5.48 megabits per second or Mbps).

Malaysia was ranked a low 126 out of 192 countries surveyed from May 2013 to April 2014 in the recent Ookla Survey.

Generation Y wants an Internet broadband speed of 66.6 Mbps like in Singapore or 78.3 Mbps like in Hong Kong or 53.77 Mbps like in South Korea.

The expectation of Generation Y is very high. Can Ahmad Shabery deliver? If he cannot, please for heaven’s sake, don’t talk bull and give empty promises.

Bluemountains: BN leaders are shameless. They have always been getting away scot-free. Offering something in return for votes is definitely an offence under election laws.

But it has been proven time and again that Umno-BN always escapes prosecution under the Election Offences Act. I hope the Election Commission (EC) will throw the book at them this time.

NewMalaysia: Nothing is free from BN, they give you RM1 and then take RM100 from you.

Kangkung: Even broadband speed becomes Umno's bargaining chip. Using methods like this to win votes is definitely not against the Umno-ed Election Commission's rules.

TakeMiddlepath: What is this? Isn't this illegal? How low can they stoop? I think those in Teluk Intan should go the other way. Teach them a lesson to never, never threaten the voters.

Davesingh: What a ‘dungu’ this minister Shabery is. Typical of the same old Umno-BN mentality and mindset.

The BN politicians must really be quite mindless. They are actually stunned that a young and intelligent Malay girl is being fielded by the DAP.

This really caught them off-guard and they are scrambling like madmen. A young guy like Khairy Jamaluddin is sadly, trapped in Umno. They will never change as they think the public are stupid like in the 1920s.

Naatamai: Hello, Shabery, taxpayers’ money should be used to pay for the infrastructure for all states, whether ruling or opposition. You're talking as if it’s Umno's funds you're disbursing.

CiViC: I don't even know where to start. Why should the people be held to ransom just to get fast Internet connection? What makes BN think they can threaten the people like this? This has to be against election laws somewhere.

And why only Teluk Intan? Is the minister saying those with slow Internet connection is because they voted for the opposition? Are we not paying tax as well?

Anonymous_40f4: The EC will say promising broadband by BN is okay and legal, but if the same is done by DAP, it is illegal and against EC laws and action will be taken.

BN bribes with hard cash, ‘you help me, I help you’. EC says its okay, legal.

Ace: These are the methods Umno-BN knows best - threats, blackmail and bribery (using the rakyat's money to bribe the rakyat, mind you). We would rather have slower Internet speed if that means one less MP from a disgusting party.

Anonymous #05023297: This is absolutely pathetic. A minister stooping so low as to blackmail and don't they have anything better to offer?

Come on, provide free Internet access for one year and a MacBook free of charge (FOC). What are the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and Unifi for?

Minister, please direct the MCMC to investigate all the comments here for breaking the law and especially for criticising you, Umno and BN.

JooGuan: Didn't Mah say he wants a "gentlemanly" contest? There goes the "gentlemanly" contest down the drain. It looks like Umno is pulling Gerakan's leg.

Pputeh: Mah, again I ask of you, sir, why are you allowing and being associated with these thugs and people who put pressure on us to vote 'someone' for 'something' in return?

Sir, I hope you will disassociate yourself from these fellows and let Teluk Intan folk not be put under pressure. Sir, again I say it’s shameful to win by offering rewards.

Jiminy Qrikert: Umno-BN is so unbelievably stupid. Every time they have held the rakyat to ransom, the rakyat has always punished them by voting the opposition candidate in with an even bigger majority.

So with this latest dumb stunt, Umno-BN has sealed Mah's fate. He will lose for sure and with a more than 7,300 majority.

Anonymous_3f6d: Broadband is of no interest to old uncles and aunties. Try giving cash. -Mkini
