Former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said lied in saying PAS tried to lure him into the party.
"In fact, he contacted us to join PAS," its central committee member Syed Azman Syed Ahmad Nawawi claimed.
Batu Burok assemblyperson said this to Malaysiakini today in denying a Sinar Harian report that said PAS had contacted Ahmad to join or support the Islamist party.
"The claim (by Ahmad) is a lie, for PAS will not react in such manner.
"In fact, I can confirm Ahmad had many times contacted PAS leaders, offering to join and support PAS to bring the BN (minority) government down.
"Among PAS leaders, there was none (who called or met with Ahmad).
"Senior PAS leaders would not be in a hurry to invite Ahmad to join PAS," Syed Azman(left) said.
He said he was informed by other PAS leaders that it was Ahmad or his representatives who made the call, soon after he and otherssent their resignations to Umno to becoming independent members of the Terengganu state assembly.
Sinar Harian today reported Ahmad as claiming that PAS had contacted him to entice him to join the party and he had rejected it out for his love for Umno.
In a related development, New Straits Times today quoted Umno and BN secretary-general Tengku Adnan Tengku Mansor that no disciplinary action would be taken against Ahmad, Ghazali Taib (Ajil) and Roslee Daud (Bukit Besi) for resigning from Umno and declaring themselves Independents.
Tengku Adnan said the party headquarters did not receive their resignation letters.
The three have since retracted their decision to resign from Umno.
