PKR suspends Khalid's rival and aide

Former Kapar MP S Manikavasagam has been suspended from PKR for his public allegation of money politics against Selangor Menteri Besar Abdul Khalid Ibrahim.

PKR disciplinary board chairperson Tan Tee Kwong said the suspension will stay until investigations are completed.

Manikavasagam is challenging Khalid for the post of Kuala Selangor PKR chief.

His allegations against the menteri besar were published in the mainstream media on May 11.

Tan said Manikavasagam, who is popularly known as Mike, had breached the party rule that any disagreement over the party election process should not be aired through the media.

Seven others also suspended

Manikavasagam, who contested the Bukit Melawati state seat in Selangor in the last general election and lost, is aligned to Khalid's rival in the race for deputy president, Azmin Ali.

Meanwhile, Khalid's political secretary Mustapha Mohd Talib was also among eight people suspended by the party for allegedly threatening to end Manikavasagam's term as the coordinator for the Bukit Melawati state seat.

The other six members were suspended because of their criticism of the party's election committee and for misconduct during party elections, including attempted fraud and storming into polling centres.

The PKR elections have been fraught with allegations of fraud, which caused polling to be suspended in many of the party's Selangor branches.

The hotly contested three-way deputy president race currently sees Khalid trailing Azmin by a small margin.

However, given Manikavasagam's suspension, Khalid could well retain his post as Kuala Selangor PKR chief, without contest.

Manikavasagam had been an outspoken critic of Khalid's administration of Selangor.
